Rare Planetary Alignment to Be Visible in Kuwait on February 28
In a separate statement, the Al-Ujairi Scientific Center highlighted an anticipated rare astronomical event — a planetary alignment expected to peak on February 28.
Six planets — Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune — are projected to appear aligned along the ecliptic, the apparent path followed by the Sun, Moon, and planets across the sky.
The phenomenon is expected to be visible from various parts of the world, including Kuwait, provided skies remain clear.
What Is a Planetary Alignment?
A planetary alignment occurs when multiple planets appear on the same side of the Sun from Earth’s perspective. Despite vast distances separating them in space, they create the visual impression of forming a straight line across the sky.
How to Observe the Alignment in Kuwait
-
Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn can be observed with the naked eye after sunset or before sunrise.
-
Uranus and Neptune require binoculars or telescopes due to their faint visibility.
-
Observers are advised to select locations away from light pollution for optimal viewing conditions.
The center described the event as a valuable scientific and educational opportunity, encouraging the public, students, and astronomy enthusiasts to observe the sky and appreciate the precision of the solar system.
